How To Easily Get Mold Out of Bathmat

It took me too long after having a baby to get a bath mat. Then when I did, I wasn't diligent about hanging it up between baths, and it quickly developed mold around every single little suction cup. I did not want to spend $20 on a bath mat again. I also didn't want to throw out something non biodegradable that I had just purchased. So I put it in the washing machine on hot with vinegar and soap. Nothing happened. It looked the same. I did this at least three times. I don't know what I was thinking would change. Then it sat in my laundry room for months. Then I had the epiphany to hang it outside in the sun. So I threw it over the chain link fence in the backyard of our apartment. And sure enough, within days, maybe sooner (I wasn't paying close attention), all the mold was gone. Tl;dr Hanging a moldy bath mat out in the sunshine for a couple of days can kill all the mold with much less effort on your part than taking a toothbrush to it would.
